Tulsa Ends Regular Season Competition with Loss at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI - The Tulsa volleyball team wrapped up regular season action on Sunday, following a three-set loss to Cincinnati [25-19, 25-18, 25-12] at Fifth Third Arena. With the loss, the Golden Hurricane (15-14, 8-8 The American) have solidified the No. 6 seed in the 2019 American Athletic Conference Tournament, which will be held later this week in Orlando, Fla. The Bearcats (23-5, 14-1) officially captured the No. 1 seed and the regular season conference title on Friday.
Tulsa and Cincinnati started out playing a tight first set, as neither team led by more than three points early on. Following a 12-11 Golden Hurricane advantage, the Bearcats used a 9-3 run to go on-top 20-15. Tulsa would use a 4-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-19, but Cincinnati scored four straight to claim the opening set.
The Golden Hurricane never held the lead in the second or third sets.
Tulsa finished with a .151 hitting percentage. The Golden Hurricane recorded 34 kills on 119 attacks, with 16 errors. Cincinnati ended with a .362 attacking clip. The Bearcats tallied 50 kills on 116Â swings with eight errors.
Dilara Gedikoglu was limited to the first set and third sets, finishing with a team-high nine kills and had six digs. Roosa Rautio led TU with 17 assists, followed by Mariah Pardo with 13 dimes. Taylor Horsfall added a team-best 13 digs.
Cincinnati's Jordan Thompson finished with a game-high 18 kills, to go with nine digs. Sophomores Arma Heckenmueller and Maria Mallon each posted double-doubles. Heckenmueller recorded a game-best 41 assists and had 10 digs. Mallon tallied 11 kills and 16 digs. Mackenzie Conner also recorded double-figure digs for the Bearcats with 17 digs.
Tulsa is expected to face UCF at The Venue in Orlando, Fla. on Friday, Nov. 23. The Knights (21-7, 14-2) claimed the No. 3 seed last weekend. Seedings and match times are expected to be announced on Sunday evening.
