11/20/2019 11:41:00 AM | Men's Soccer

Tulsa signed four players for the 2020 men's soccer signing class, including Will Edwards, Noah Gonsalves, Johan Juarez and Soren Kaldma, as announced today by head coach Tom McIntosh.

"I'm excited to welcome Will, Noah, Johan and Soren to our program and university," McIntosh said.  "First and foremost, we successfully recruited the best players in the state with the additions of Will, Noah and Johan.  Second, the addition of Soren gives us high level international playing experience and added maturity to our team. I believe all four players can make immediate contributions to our team and I look forward to working with them."

Edwards, a 5-7 forward from Jenks, Okla., was a three-year letterwinner at Jenks High School.  He led JHS to 36 wins in the last three seasons, including an Oklahoma Class 6A State Championship as a junior and state runner-up performance as a sophomore, and has tallied 36 goals and 23 assists.  Edwards was the 2019 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, while also picking up All-America and all-state honors last year, and all-Tulsa World accolades the last two seasons.  Edwards also played club soccer for the Tulsa Soccer Club.

"Will is a player who is comfortable beating players on the dribble and creating chances for himself and others," McIntosh said.  "In addition, he is driven and demonstrates excellent habits on the field, in the classroom and socially."

A 5-11 midfielder from Tulsa, Okla., Gonsalves is a two-year letterwinner at Jenks High School.  He has helped his team record 20 wins in the last two seasons, including an Oklahoma Class 6A State Championship as a junior and state runner-up performance as a sophomore.  As a junior, Gonsalves netted nine goals and had six assists, while being tabbed to the all-Tulsa World second team.  Gonsalves also played club soccer for the Tulsa Soccer Club.

"Noah is an excellent midfielder who has good awareness, understanding and technique to go along with excellent athletic ability," McIntosh said.  "Noah has continued to improve as a player every year and I believe he will continue to get better throughout his career."

Juarez, a 6-0 midfielder from Moore, Okla., is a three-year letterwinner at Westmoore High School.   He has recorded 33 goals in the last three seasons, and has been named the WHS Offensive Player of the Year each year.  Juarez played club soccer from OKC Energy.

"Johan is a deep lying midfield player who is good on the ball and covers a lot of ground," McIntosh said.  "He sees a pass quite well and is an excellent competitor."

A 6-0 defender from Harjumaa, Estonia, Kaldma played soccer for the U21 National Team and Paide Linnameeskond.

"Soren is a composed center back or defensive midfield player, and will bring high level international experience and maturity to our team," McIntosh said.
