There were 18 lead changes and 12 tied scores, but Stetson earned a 66-60 win over Tulsa on Sunday afternoon at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 3-8 on the season, while the Hatters moved to 5-5 overall.

"Overall our kids played hard and aggressively," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We wanted to get to the free throw line and we did, we wanted open looks and we had them, we wanted to rebound with them and we did, but in the end the ball didn't go into the basket enough times.  We were solid defensively.  When you hold a team to 66 you expect to win, but for some reason the ball isn't going into the hole for us.  We have guys that can shoot and guys we want to shoot, but it isn't going in.  They are doing everything we ask of them, but when a few shots don't fall it snowballs and it has for a few games in a row now."

Kendrian Elliott had her fifth double-double of the season and 11th of her career with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Addison Richards also netted 13 points and Rebecca Lescay added 12.  Alexis Gaulden registered six assists, Lescay had a team-leading four steals and Elliott had three blocks.

The Golden Hurricane had a 14-13 advantage in the third quarter for a 44-43 lead with one quarter to play, but Stetson outscored Tulsa 23-16 in the final frame for the win.

The Hatters outscored TU, 9-2, to take a 52-46 lead with 6:22 to play in the contest, but the Hurricane battled back for a 53-52 advantage at the 4:00 mark on a pair of free throws by Gaulden, a layup by Kayla Moutry and a three-pointer by Maddie Bittle.  There were seven lead changes and four tied scores in the final four minutes of the game, but the Hatters finished on top, 66-60.

Both teams had 32 rebounds and four blocks, while Tulsa had a 16-15 edge in assists and a 6-2 lead in steals.  TU also forced 17 Stetson turnovers, while the Hurricane had 13.

Tulsa shot 36-percent from the field, 18-percent from behind the arc and 87-percent from the free throw line, while Stetson shot a solid 51-percent from the field, 46-percent from three-point range and 66-percent from the charity stripe.

Although Tulsa forced nine Stetson turnovers in the first 10 minutes, the Hatters had a 17-13 advantage at the end of the frame.  TU shot just 29-percent, compared to Stetson's 63-percent in the first period.

Tulsa battled back to tie the score at 20-20 at the 7:03 mark of the second quarter.  There were two lead changes and five more tied scores before the teams went into the locker room tied, 30-30.  The two teams reversed the score from the first frame, with TU outscoring SU, 17-13.  Both teams shot 42.9-percent in the period, while the Hurricane had a 5-1 edge in scoring from the free throw line.

Stetson was led by Day'Neshia Banks with 17 points, while Kimia Carter added 16 and Jamiya Turner had 10.  Megan Vincent pulled down eight rebounds and had two blocks.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, December 21 against Colorado State.  Game time is set for 6:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
