Morgan Brady, Crystal Polk and Rebecca Lescay all finished in double figures to lead Tulsa to a 72-67 win over Tulane on Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 11-12 on the season and 5-5 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Green Wave fell to 14-9 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Polk had her ninth career double-double with 20-points and tied her career-high with 14 rebounds, while Brady had a team-leading 21 points, and Rebecca Lescay tied her career-high with 14 points.  Alexis Gaulden added eight points, six assists and four steals, while Lescay also tallied four steals.

"I think you look at Crystal 's offensive rebounds that she converted into baskets, the times we fed her at the right angle and the face-up jumpers too, and she was great offensively tonight," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "Morgan Brady got 11 of her 21 points at the free throw line, and Rebecca was really good at attacking.  In the first half I felt like we were trying to do things individually, but the second half we played as a team.  It takes us a long time to get warmed up, but then we played together and got rhythm shots, which leads to a good percentage."

Tulsa shot 38-percent from the field, including 29-percent from behind the arc, and 79-percent from the free throw line, while Tulane was 44-percent from the field, 30-percent from three-point range and 56-percent from the free throw line.  The Hurricane hit 19-of-24 attempts from the line, while the Green Wave was 9-of-16.

"A lot of our points were at the free throw line with us going 19-of-24, and that shows we were attacking," Mossman said.  "I think making more free throws than the other team attempts helps win games."

There were 10 tied scores and 17 lead changes in the tightly-contested game, but Tulsa led for 25:45 of the game, including the final 8:22 off the clock.

Tulane had a 40 points off the bench, compared to Tulsa's 26, while both teams had 24 points in the paint, and Tulsa had an 18-14 lead in points off turnovers and an 18-5 advantage in second-chance points.

Tulane got out to a 5-2 start at the 7:45 mark, but Tulsa scored the next four points to take a 6-5 advantage with 6:09 on the clock in the first quarter.  The Golden Hurricane maintained the lead for the remainder of the frame with a 15-12 advantage at the break.

The Green Wave tied up the score, 15-15, at the 8:13 mark of the second quarter, and took the lead on a three-pointer by Kayla Manuirirangi 41-seconds later.  The two teams had five tied scores and nine lead changes in the frame, but it was Tulane that took a 32-29 advantage into halftime.

Tulsa came out of the locker room fired up in the second half, outscoring Tulane, 10-2, in the first 3:25 of the third quarter for a 39-34 advantage and forcing the Green Wave to call a timeout.  Tulane then closed the gap, pulling to within one, 41-40, at the 3:37 mark, and took a 42-41 lead with 1:42 to play in the frame.  The two teams then traded the lead two more times and had two tied scores before the Golden Hurricane tallied a 47-45 advantage with one quarter to play.

Tulsa owned a 55-52 lead with 4:06 to play in the game, but went on a 9-2 run for a 64-54 advantage with 2:37 to play.  Tulane battled back to pull within six, 66-60, with 1:12 remaining in the contest, but the Hurricane held on for the five-point victory.

Tulane was led by Krystal Freeman and Tatyana Lofton with 17 points each, while Manuirirangi added 11 points.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, February 16 at USF.  Game time is set for 12:00 pm Central in Tampa, Fla.
