COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of Tulsa volleyball junior DS/L Taylor Horsfall and sophomore MB Callie Cook will take part in the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, taking place March 1-3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
The Golden Hurricane athletes are competing with 215 athletes from 88 colleges, all vying for a spot on the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team programs.
Each athlete will have one tryout session on Friday, two on Saturday and one final morning session on Sunday. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women's National Team staff will lead the tryout process.
Selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Teams will be made by the end of March. Selected athletes for the U.S. Women's National Team may begin their training in Anaheim, California, as early as the spring of 2019, or when an athlete's scholastic or professional club season has concluded.
This past season for the Golden Hurricane, Horsfall earned her second all-conference laurel, while Cook paced Tulsa with 124 blocks on a 1.10 blocks per set clip. TU finished the season 19-12, including the team's first postseason bid since 2013 and the first time under head coach Ryan Wills.
