SIGNING DAY CENTRAL

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa signed 11 recruits to national letters-of-intent today and coupled with the nine December signees, the Golden Hurricane now has a total of 20 student-athletes who will continue their collegiate careers at Tulsa.

Among this 11-player signing period, Tulsa signed four players on offense and seven defensive players for a total class of nine on offense and 11 on defense. In addition to signees from Oklahoma and Texas, Tulsa expanded into two states – Florida and Tennessee – with the February class. The full class of newcomers includes five defensive backs, four defensive linemen, three offensive linemen, three receivers, two linebackers, two tight ends and one running back.

Overall, Tulsa's recruiting class consists of 13 players from the state of Texas, three each from Oklahoma and Florida and one from Tennessee.

"We had some areas that surprised us a little bit with some guys from an injury standpoint that opened up some slots for us, and we definitely had some needs to fill. I think we addressed those, getting a JC tight end, who can do what we ask our tight ends to do, and grabbed another JC safety who can come in and compete and provide some quality competition at that spot. Those were key," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.

"We were also able to add another speed receiver, tight end and an offensive lineman, who is very aggressive and wants to be an engineer so he really fits our program, and then adding two long, athletic and physical corners and safety, plus two defensive linemen and one linebacker," added Montgomery.

"I'm really excited about the entire class that we've signed. We're taking guys that will be great fits for us offensively and defensively. Overall, just like always, we're looking for guys that fit our mold – guys that will work hard, play at a high level and bring length and athleticism to our program. With the new 5-for-4 situation there are some of these guys that may have an opportunity to come in and play four games early," said Montgomery. "I'm excited about the amount of talent, the size and length that we've added with this class. I think this class is one we'll look back on that will have made a big and dramatic impact as we move forward."
