TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis team (11-6) notched another shut out on Sunday afternoon, sweeping the Bradley Braves (9-5), 7-0, inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In Tulsa's 11 victories on the season, eight of the wins have been sweeps for head coach Dean Orford's squad.
After defaulting at the No. 3 doubles spot, the Golden Hurricane picked up the doubles point on the back of a 6-1 victory from Tulsa's No. 14 Martina Okalova/Vera Ploner. The win marks the tandem's team-leading eighth of the dual season.
Newly-formed TU tandem of Martha Matoula and Manon Meulenberg also added a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position to sweep the doubles point for the Golden Hurricane.
In singles, the Hurricane once again maintained its momentum, taking four of five first sets off the Braves. Freshman Marina Davtyan tallied the first solo victory, taking a near-flawless 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position.
Fellow freshman Meulenberg did the clinching duties for Tulsa on the day, nabbing a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bradley's Kinga Kovacs to secure the match. Shortly after, No. 76 Okalova added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position to push the Hurricane ahead 5-0.
Both of the final two matches went the distance, but Tulsa prevailed in each. Megan Hopton notched her first win at the No. 2 position of the season, 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (11-9) against the Braves' Malini Wijesinghe.
Shura Poppe secured the shutout for TU with a three-set affair in the No. 3 slot, winning 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) over Bradley's Nikki Perlwitz.
