Tulsa Tallies 4-3 Upset Over No. 23 Oklahoma State on Wednesday

TULSA, Okla. – After upsetting the No. 22 doubles tandem in the NCAA, the Golden Hurricane (10-8) notched a 4-3 upset victory over No. 23 Oklahoma State (11-5) on Wednesday in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The win marks the team's first over in-state rival Oklahoma State since April 1, 2016, along with the team's second top-25 victory of the season.
Joshua Goodger and Tom Thelwall-Jones struck first in doubles, adding a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position over OSU's Matej Vocel/Brady Draheim for the tandem's second victory of the season.
Tulsa secured the doubles point in style, tallying a convincing 6-2 win at the No. 1 slot. Jarod Hing and Boriss Kamdem defeated the Cowboys' No. 22 duo of Maxim Tybar and Mathieu Scaglia to improve to a perfect 4-0 in doubles in 2019.
In singles, freshman Kody Pearson continued his stellar first year, winning 6-1, 6-1 over OSU's Emile Hudd to pace the Golden Hurricane at 13-4 in solo play on the season. The Cowboys managed to pull back within one shortly after, winning at the No. 5 position, 7-6(3), 6-2.
Kamdem snapped his four-match losing streak at an opportune time for TU, nabbing a 7-5, 6-4 victory to extend the Tulsa lead back to 3-1. In an exciting match-clinching comeback victory, Goodger defeated OSU's Tybar 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 for the team's first win over OSU since 2016.
In the two remaining matches, Vocel defeated Kilani at the No. 1 position in a three-set affair, while Hing fell in his match to Scaglia, 2-6, 7-6(3), 7-5.
The Golden Hurricane returns to action on Saturday, as the Drake Bulldogs travel to Tulsa for a 10 a.m. match at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
