Tulsa Men Take Down UTSA at Home on Sunday, 5-2

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis team (12-10) got back in the win column with a 5-2 victory over UTSA (11-7) on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane got out to a hot start in doubles, sweeping the opening point over the Roadrunners. Joshua Goodger and Tom Thelwall-Jones got the scoring started for TU, nabbing a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position.
Tulsa's No. 55 duo of Jarod Hing and Boriss Kamdem followed suit, winning 6-2 at the top spot to secure the point. For good measure, Majed Kilani and freshman Kody Pearson also took a 6-2 victory to blank UTSA in doubles.
Tulsa managed to hold momentum as the team headed into singles, taking four of the six first frames off the Roadrunners. Freshman Stefan Hampe struck first for Tulsa in singles, picking up a quick 6-4, 6-1 victory.
UTSA found its footing at the No. 4 position, as Juri Reckow defeated Tulsa's Hing, 6-2, 6-4 to pull back within one. To tie the match at 2-all, Javier Gonzalez took down Kamdem, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.
TU pulled ahead 3-2 in the match with Kilani's 6-3, 6-3 win at the top spot over the Roadrunners' Kai Breitbach.
To clinch the match for the Golden Hurricane, Pearson defeated Javier Rodriguez in a gutsy second frame, 6-3, 7-6(2) for the freshman's team-leading 15th singles victory of the year.
Goodger rounded out the match, also picking up 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory at the No. 2 position to give TU the 5-2 win on the day.
Tulsa will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2, for the team's first home conference match, set to square off with Memphis at 2 p.m. CT in Tulsa.
