Hampe Clinches 4-3 Win Over Memphis on Tuesday Afternoon

TULSA, Okla. – Stefan Hampe earned a three-set victory to clinch as the University of Tulsa men's tennis team (13-10) notched its first conference home victory of the season with a 4-3 win over Memphis (10-10) on Tuesday.

Jarod Hing and Boriss Kamdem got Tulsa off to a fast start, winning a ranked matchup at the top doubles spot over No. 77 David Stevenson/Oscar Cutting, 6-4. In identical fashion, Joshua Goodger and Tom Thelwall-Jones nabbed a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position to give TU the 1-0 advantage.

The Golden Hurricane continued to edge out points in singles, winning three of the first six frames. The Tigers managed to regain the lead with straight-set wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions.

Team captain Majed Kilani brought the Hurricane back into the match with a 7-5, 6-1 straight-set victory over Memphis' Chris Patzanovsky to tie it up at 2-all.

Goodger piggybacked off Kilani's victory, earning a 6-3, 7-5 decision of his own to swing a 3-2 lead back in Tulsa's favor. The Tigers responded at the No. 2 slot, nabbing a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory to once again even up the odds.

In what came down to Hampe at the No. 5 position, each side took a set to send it to a third-frame finale. The Germany native went on to notch his 11th victory of the year to secure the match for TU, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.

Tulsa will be back in action on Sunday, April 7, set to continue its homestand with Temple at 11 a.m. CT in Tulsa.
