TULSA, Okla. – University of Tulsa women's tennis junior Martina Okalova was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Player of the Week, the conference has announced on Tuesday.

The honor marks the first of her career, coming off the back of a standout performance this past weekend in Tulsa's 5-2 victory over Purdue. The Slovakia native took down the nation's No. 17-ranked singles player, Silvia Ambrosio, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Including this past weekend's performance, Okalova is 5-4 this season at the No. 1 position for the Golden Hurricane. In doubles, she and teammate Vera Ploner are 7-3 at the top doubles spot for Tulsa, along with being ranked inside the top-10 doubles tandems in the country.

Head coach Dean Orford's bunch sits at 10-5 overall this spring, with an in-state rivalry matchup with Oklahoma on Friday looming. The Golden Hurricane and the Sooners will square off at 3 p.m. CT in Norman.
