Tulsa Golfers Begin Chase for the American Athletic Conference Championship Sunday

PALM COAST, Fla – The Tulsa golf team looks for its 13th league title and its first in the American Athletic Conference when the women tee-off at The American Championships present by Air Force Reserve on Sunday, April 14.
The event takes place at the par -72, 6,276-yard Hammock Beach Resort Conservatory Course, Sunday-Tuesday, April 14-16. The 10-team field includes UCF, Cincinnati, ECU, Houston, Memphis, USF, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. Eight of the teams are ranked among the nation's top-100 in the Golfstat Rankings, including Tulsa at No. 86.
Tulsa enters the event after finishing in the top-5 in three of its four spring tournaments, including back-to-back third-place performances at the Texas State Invitational and the Kiawah Island Classic. The Golden Hurricane has finished among the top-5 in six of nine tournaments through the entire season.
The Hurricane is led by freshman Lorena Tseng, who has placed among the top-10 in seven of nine tournaments this year and swept the American Athletic Conference Player of the Month award in the fall season.
Senior Johanna Samuelsson has been consistent during the spring season with three top-20 performances in Tulsa's four tournaments, including a season-best 10th place finish at the Texas State Invitational.
Tulsa's 5-member lineup also includes sophomore Taylor Dobson and two more freshmen, Sammy Liu and Jasmine Zhang.
Since joining a conference in 1993-94, the Missouri Valley Conference, Golden Hurricane golf teams have won 12 conference championships in 25 seasons. The last league title came in 2012 when the Hurricane captured the Conference USA Championship. Tulsa won all three MVC titles, seven of nine conference crowns in the Western Athletic Conference and two Conference USA titles in nine years as a league member.
Tulsa's best finish in the American Athletic Conference Championship was 5th place in the 2017 campaign.
