Tulsa Women’s Tennis Sweeps Temple on Senior Day

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis squad (14-8) blanked the Temple Owls (10-6), 7-0, in the team's final home match of the season on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane continued its doubles dominance this season, notching identical 6-2 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Tulsa's No. 12-ranked duo of Vera Ploner and Martina Okalova took down Temple's Alice Patch and Oyku Boz, while Martha Matoula and Shura Poppe defeated Stefaniya Surikova and Ruoyu Chen.
On her Senior Day, Matoula was the first to wrap up in singles, defeating Surikova in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, for a 2-0 Tulsa lead.
Ploner followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 victory of her own over the Owls' Chunan Xiang to extend the TU advantage to three. To seal the match for the Golden Hurricane, No. 76 Okalova added her ninth win of the season at the top spot for Tulsa with a 6-3, 6-2 win to clinch the match.
In the three remaining singles matches, freshman Megan Hopton recorded her 12th victory of the dual season at the No. 4 position, winning a convincing 6-3, 6-1. Poppe followed accordingly, earning a 6-2, 7-5 win over Temple's Yining Tian.
Marina Davtyan closed out the day for Tulsa in a three-set battle at the No. 6 position. The Armenia native secured the sweep for Tulsa with a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-1) win to claim the victory.
