6/20/2019 10:24:00 AM | Rowing

The Tulsa rowing team is on an 18-day foreign tour to Venice, Italy, Bled, Slovenia, and Henley on Thames, England.  The team will have some fun, as well as practice and compete in the Bled International Regatta (June 14-16) and Henley Women's Regatta (June 21-23). To document their adventure, six different rowers will blog about a three-day time period.

Today's entry is from Taylah Eder, a senior from Christchurch, New Zealand.

Today was a busy day! We woke up early, grabbed a quick breakfast, hopped on the bus and made our way back to Venice Airport. From there we jumped on a plane and headed for ENGLAND! Henley on Thames, for many this is their first time visiting this beautiful country and for some they call it home. Our host families met us at the train station and took us to our houses for the night to get ready for practice at 8am.

Today we GOT OUR BOATS! It was so exciting to see the boats we were so kindly allowed to borrow while we are in Henley. We got to have a good row this morning on the river Thames out of the Henley Rowing Club Boat house.

After our row we all went back to our respective houses, had showers and headed back to the train station where we jumped on a bus and headed for Cambridge. There we met with some of the University of Cambridge Rowing team and they showed us around all of the different Colleges. Cambridge is such a beautiful place, there is so much history. We even got to have dinner in one of the dining halls, Emmanuel College. It was amazing getting to walk around and just take it all in.

After this we got back on the bus and drove back to the train station, and went home to our houses. We are so lucky that we get to have these incredible experiences.

Today we got to continue learning the ways of rowing on the Thames, and the stressors that come along with being so close to the edges. All boats worked out how to back into the blocks and then how to stay straight on the curvy course. It's only just sinking in where we are, the history of this course and how lucky we are that we get to race on it.
