Montgomery Pleased with Spirited Workout on Day 2

TULSA, Okla. –– In the intermittent rain Friday morning, the Tulsa football team practiced for the second time of preseason camp with a 2-hour workout on the turf of H.A. Chapman Stadium.

"I thought today we were much better on the give-and-take of it. We had the defense making big plays, the offense making big plays. The competition between the two groups was really spirited," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.

"You can tell that they took what we're doing in meetings, the corrections we made and applied it on the field. They're learning as we're going. Seeing us execute better, was probably the best part of it today," added Montgomery. "After day one you want to see improvement to day two. You don't want to make those same mistakes twice and you want to see the execution at a really good level. We did that today."

On Saturday, the Golden Hurricane will put on the shoulder pads for the first time.

"There will be a lot of energy. There always is on the first day of pads. They players will be juiced up when they come out," said Montgomery. "We have to do a good job of taking care of each other, and not getting so caught up that in having pads on and being physical that we're not thinking and playing the game, the way we need to play it."

With pads on, Tulsa's focus will shift a little more to the run game on Saturday. "We'll put a little more emphasis on the run game tomorrow, so these guys have to prepare themselves for it, and I know our guys will."
