Five Golden Hurricane Eclipse Double Digits to End Tulsa Invitational with Win over SIUE

TULSA, Okla. - Five Golden Hurricane turned in double-digit performances to conclude the Tulsa Invitational with a 3-1 [19-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20] win over SIUE on Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Tulsa improves to 6-4 overall and finishes the invitational going 2-1 in its three matches. The Cougars fall to 5-4 this season.
Senior Taylor Horsfall and junior Callie Cook were both named to the all-tournament team. For Horsfall, it's her third tournament nod this season, while its Cook's first nomination of the season.
Trailing 1-0 after the opening set, Tulsa used a pair of runs, 4-0 and 5-1 to cushion its advantage throughout the second set.
During the first run, Horsfall recorded back-to-back service aces, while Dilara Gedikoglu and Maggie Hembree each tallied a kill. Later, TU led 12-7. Tulsa's five-point spurt helped the Golden Hurricane increase the advantage to eight points. Cook notched a pair of kills, followed by Roosa Rautio setting up Lily Heyne for a point.
TU would go on to dominate in the third set. They started the game on a 5-0 and later scored five straight points for an 11-point lead at 16-5. With Tulsa up 20-12, SIUE committed four straight errors. Back-to-back service aces from Horsfall gave Tulsa its first overall lead in the match.
The Cougars fought their way back in the fourth set, as they clawed Tulsa's seven-point lead of 12-5 to 17-15. SIUE's Hope Everett tallied a kill late in the set, bringing the Cougars to within a point at 21-20. TU didn't back away. A Gedikoglu kill, followed by three consecutive attacking errors clinched the win for the Golden Hurricane.
The Golden Hurricane never trailed over the final two sets.
Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm during the match. Tulsa finished with 46 kills, 29 errors, and 164 total attacks for a .104 attacking percentage. SIUE totaled 29 kills, 25 assists, and 136 total attacks with a .159 attacking clip.
TU led in total assists, 39-25 and service aces, 8-4. The Cougars edged the Golden Hurricane in total digs, 70-69, while leading 15.5-12.5 in total blocks.
Gedikoglu finished the match with game-high 13 kills and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. She also had two service aces, one solo block, and three block assists.
Cook also turned in double-digit kills with 12, to go with four block assists.
Horsfall led all players with 24 digs and registered a career-high four service aces. Rautio tallied a match-high 21 assists, while Mariah Pardo came off the bench to assist on 11 points.
Hembree added a solo block and five block assists. Heyne recorded a solo block, while Lauren Isenberg finished with three block assists.
The Golden Hurricane return to action on Friday, Sept. 20, as they head to Western Kentucky for the WKU Volleyball Invitational. Tulsa begins the two-day tournament playing Samford at 1:00 p.m.
