Tulsa Women's Tennis Wins Six Matches on Day Two of Mizzou Invite

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tulsa women's tennis team won six matches on day two of the Mizzou Invite. The Golden Hurricane captured four wins in singles play and two in doubles. The three-day invitational, hosted by Missouri, is being held at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Tulsa started the morning off facing SMU in doubles competition. Fifth-ranked Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner suffered a 6-2 defeat to Claudia Bartolome and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki at the No. 1 slot. The Golden Hurricane nearly captured a win at No. 2 doubles, as Marina Davtyan and Shura Poppe fell to Tiffany Hollebeck and Nicole Petchey, 7-5.
The Golden Hurricane then matched up with Missouri for the first time this weekend. Tulsa captured a pair of wins against the Tigers. Okalova and Ploner defeated Lisa Fukutoku and Ellie Wright in a 6-2 decision. Davtyan and Poppe were also victorious in the No. 2 position, as they defeated Viven Abraham and Marta Oliveria, 6-4.
In singles play, the Golden Hurricane nearly swept the Cougars. No. 73 Okalova dominated in No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win vs. Ndini Ndunda. Ploner was victorious at No. 2 singles against Azul Pedemonti 6-1, 6-2. At No. 4 singles, Davtyan defeated Mimi Kendall-Woseley 7-6, 6-0. Lian Benedejcic picked up her first collegiate at win No. 6 singles over Houston's Phonexay Chitdara 7-5, 7-5. Laia Conde Monfort fell to Elenda Tairyan in a tiebreaker 6-0, 1-6, 10-7.
The Mizzou Invite concludes on Sunday, Sept. 22, as the Golden Hurricane face Missouri in singles competition at 9:00 a.m.
