TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa's Taylor Horsfall has been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday. This marks the fifth time the senior libero has received this award.
A native of Houston, Texas, Horsfall racked up 72 digs over the weekend, including 37 in the season opener vs. Pepperdine at the North Texas Invite. The 37 digs against The Wave gives her another record in the TU record books. It marks the fourth time in her career that eclipsed 37+ digs in a match. It's also the ninth time she's chipped in 30+ digs in a contest. Entering the season, Pepperdine was one of 17 teams who "also received votes" in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I Preseason Coaches Poll.
Horsfall currently ranks third in career digs with 1,756. She currently leads The American in total digs with 72, while averaging 5.54 digs per set.
The Golden Hurricane return to action this weekend at the KC Roos Klassic, hosted by Kansas City. Tulsa will begin the tournament vs. South Dakota on Friday, Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m., followed by LA Tech in the afternoon at 4:30 p.m. TU will square off against Kansas City in the final match of the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
