Tulsa Women's Tennis Blanks LA Tech, Montana State on Day One of Hurricane Invite

TULSA, Okla. - Day one of the Hurricane Invitational shaped out the way the Tulsa women's tennis team wanted it to go. The Golden Hurricane swept LA Tech in a duel match, 4-0, followed by winning six singles matches vs. Montana State (0-3) in straight sets at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of TU.
The Hurricane (3-0) will resume its match with Montana State on Sunday, with doubles beginning at 8:30 a.m. They will then take on Wyoming in the third and final match of the invite at 9:30 a.m.
Match 1: Tulsa 4, LA Tech 0Â
Shura Poppe and Elodie Foster also won their contest vs. Rikona Murakami and Madison Cefalu, 6-4.
Okalova and Ploner each tallied back-to-back points for the Hurricane, as Tulsa's lead grew to 3-0. At the No. 1 position, Okalova captured her third win this spring. The 52nd-ranked player in the country defeated Manjon 6-1, 6-0. Ploner finished shortly after at No. 3 singles in straight sets vs. Ilana Tetruashvili 6-2, 6-1.
Poppe was in a barnburner at No. 2 singles. She would win the first set over Jover, but the Lady Techster fought back from a 5-2 deficit and forced a tiebreaker. The opposite occurred in the third set, as Poppe rallied back with four straight to capture the duel for Tulsa 6-4, 7-5(5).
Match 2: Tulsa 6, Montana State 0 (Singles Only)
Tulsa swept the opposition in singles for the fourth time this season against Montana State. Laia Conde Monfort got the first point of the duel for the Golden Hurricane at No. 3 singles vs. Mirte Van Baelen 6-1, 6-1. At No. 1 singles, 52nd ranked Martina Okalova followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Laura Mary.
Vera Ploner was the third Hurricane to capture a win vs. Linnea Fristam. The No. 2 singles match started with both competitors evenly contested, but Ploner shifted the momentum in her favor in a 6-3, 6-0 triumph.
Lian Benedejcic gave Tulsa a 4-0 advantage in singles winning in straight sets vs. JJ Chen 6-0, 6-0. Marina Davtyan took down Caitlin Ward 6-1, 6-0, while Megan Hopton secured a point vs. Daphne Haverkamp 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
