Tulsa Men's Tennis Tops Bryant in Doubleheader

TULSA, Okla. - 
The Tulsa men's tennis team faced one of the top men's tennis programs from the Northeast in Bryant on Sunday. But the Golden Hurricane were the more physical against the reigning Northeast Conference champions, as the Golden Hurricane improved to 4-0 in the doubleheader with back-to-back 6-1 wins against the Bulldogs (1-3).

The Golden Hurricane will head to Columbus, Ohio next weekend, to compete in the ITA Kick-Off, hosted by sixth-ranked Ohio State. TU is set to play Utah on Saturday at 12 noon CT, followed by Purdue or the Buckeyes on Sunday.

Match 1: Tulsa 6, Bryant 1
Connor Di Marco and Stefan Hampe improved to 1-0 as a tandem at No. 3 doubles, as they defeated Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia and Grant Pertile in a 6-1 triumph. Boriss Kamdem and Daniel Siddall clinched the doubles point against Guido Argentini and Alexander Schou, 6-3.

Both teams continued playing, as Jarod Hing and Tom Thelwall-Jones tried to pick up a win in the No. 1 slot. Tulsa's top doubles team was able to force a tiebreaker, but fell 7-6(7) to Bryant's Wilson Dong and Trent Massam.

Hampe secured the first win in singles play for the Hurricane at No. 3 singles, as he picked up a straight sets win over Massam 6-0, 6-2. Thelwall-Jones was victorious at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-4 over Ortiz-Garcia.

Kamdem and Siddall were both tested, as the Bulldogs forced the two to a tiebreaker. Siddall was pushed the distance in the first set at No. 6 singles, but was able to clinch the win vs. Andrew Forchetti 7-6(6). Kamdem had to fight his way back at No. 5 singles. He would eventually secure a point on the scoreboard with a 7-5, 7-6(5) decision over Schou.

Cenoz erased a one-set deficit to for a three-set win at No. 3 singles vs. Argentini 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Match 2: Tulsa 6, Bryant 1 
It was a battle to see which doubles tandem would finish first, as all three matches ended within 90 seconds of each other. The first win came at No. 3 doubles, as Stefan Hampe and Juan Pablo Cenoz defeated Grant Pertile and Andrew Pregel 6-1.

Boriss Kamdem and Daniel Siddall followed with a shutout of Wilson Dong and Trent Massam, 6-0. The final win came from Jarod Hing and Tom Thelwall-Jones, as they secured a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles against Alexander Schou and Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia.

Hampe gave Tulsa a 2-0 advantage thanks to a straights sets win at No 2 singles vs. Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Cenoz captured a 6-1, 6-4 win over Philip Belmatch. Hing clinched the match at No. 1 singles against Trent Massam 6-2, 7-5.

The two teams had originally decided to play to clinch the second match, but decided to keep playing as they wanted to break the three tiebreakers.

Kamdem was able to secure a hard-fought win at No. 4 singles, as he defeated Grant Pertile 6-0, 7-6(5). Siddall went the distance with Bryant's Anshumat Srivastava, as he rallied to win in three sets 6(0)-7, 6-4, 1-0(7).
