Okalova Slotted in ITA Singles Rankings, Rises to No. 34 with Ploner in Doubles

TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Tulsa's Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner climbed up six spots in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Women's Doubles Rankings in 2020, as released by the organization on Wednesday. Okalova was also ranked No. 84 in the singles rankings.
The senior tandem currently stands at 15-6 overall on the year, with a 6-1 mark at No. 1 doubles. Okalova and Ploner are 8-2 over their last 10 matches, and boasts a 3-2 record vs. nationally-ranked doubles teams. Five of their six losses have come against opposing duos currently ranked in the top 60.
Okalova is the lone Hurricane in the singles rankings. The No. 84-ranked player is 11-4 overall and 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Her lone loss came this past weekend to No. 28 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat of Oklahoma State, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (10). The Slovakian currently stands at 2-2 against ranked opponents.
The Golden Hurricane (6-2) return to Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. Abilene Christian (2-3). It marks Tulsa's lone home dual match in the month of February.
