Tulsa Captures 2nd Win of the Day with 1-0 Victory over Samford

MIAMI, Fla. - The Golden Hurricane used a sacrifice fly by Mikayla Whitten in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Samford, 1-0 in the third game of the FIU Classic.

Kyndal Pirtle gave Tulsa a runner in scoring position by using an error by the Bulldog pitcher to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Tajiah Ellison moved Pirtle to third on a sacrifice bunt. On the first pitch to Whitten, she drove in the Hurricane's only run with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Chenise Delce started in the circle for the Hurricane for the 8th time this season. The sophomore threw 7.0 scoreless innings for her second shutout of the season.

Delce struck out 10 Samford batters in the game allowing just 1 walk and 5 hits in the process. She picked up her team-high 6th win of the season.

Tulsa picks up its second win of the day, moving to 13-9 on the season while Samford falls to 8-12.

Samford's Abby Swaney drew the start for the Bulldogs in the circle. The freshman picked up her second loss of the season throwing 6.0 innings, giving up 2 hits and one run.

Ellison singled to left field with one out in the bottom of the third inning, and Aubree Seaney singled to left in the bottom of the sixth for the only Hurricane hits in the game.

Tulsa will wrap up the FIU Classic tomorrow facing Ball State at 9:00 a.m. before facing Maryland directly after at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
