LB Zaven Collins and LS Adam Higuera get preseason recognition

CLEVELAND, Ohio –– The University of Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins and long snapper Adam Higuera were named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-America fourth team, the magazine announced today.

Collins, who a day earlier was selected as one of 90 players to the preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, was a second-team American Athletic Conference selection last year. In 2019, Collins recorded 97 tackles, eight TFLs for -27 yards, two sacks and two pass breakups.

The 6'4" junior from Hominy, Oklahoma, has played in 24 career games with 22 starts and has totaled 182 tackles and 17.5 TFLs, six pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. A 2018 Freshman All-American, as named by USA Today and FWAA, Collins has six double-figure tackle games and two blocked kicks in his career.

Higuera, a senior from Gilbert, Arizona, has handled long snapping duties in all of his 36 career games played.

The 6'1" senior has been flawless as Tulsa's long snapper since his first game as a true freshman in 2017. In his first career contest, Higuera scored Tulsa's first touchdown of the 2017 season after recovering a fumbled punt in the end zone against Oklahoma State.

Tulsa opens the 2020 football season on Saturday, September 5, with a home game against the Toledo Rockets.
