Martina Okalova Named American Athletic Conference’s Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award

IRVING, Texas –– The University of Tulsa tennis star Martina Okalova was selected as the American Athletic Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's tennis, as announced today by the league office.
 
In marks the second straight season that a Tulsa tennis student-athlete has won the women's tennis scholar-athlete of the year award. Each individual sport Scholar-Athletes of the Year will receive a $2,000 postgraduate scholarship.
 
Okalova, from Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, has maintained a 3.65 GPA in exercise & sports science with a pre-med track.
 
In 2019, Okalova was one-half of Tulsa's doubles All-America team as she and teammate Vera Ploner advanced to the 2019 quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship. She and her doubles partner has posted a 48-14 record over the past two seasons.
 
In singles player the last two seasons, including this year's shortened spring season due to COVID-19, Okalova has won 27 matches, mostly at the No. 1 position.
 
Okalova is a two-time all-American Athletic Conference performer.
