TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa football closed out its third straight practice day after returning to the field Sunday morning for a two-hour workout on the grass at Harwell Field. It was just the seventh practice day for the Hurricane.
Due to the nine-day pause in practice, Tulsa will continue its preseason-type practices this week as classes begin on Monday.
"We'll stay at least another week in that preseason-type mode from a practice standpoint. Our times will be different now that we're in class, but we still have so much installation still to do. We have to get all of that installed prior to transitioning out of that period," said Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery.
"This will be a huge week for that," added Montgomery.
"Normally, by this point we would have the majority of everything installed, and we'd be starting to fine tune all of that. We're just not there yet. This week will be a big push to get the rest of the installation done and start progressing before we really start thinking about Oklahoma State being our first opponent," said Montgomery.
With today being the third day back after the layoff, Montgomery was encouraged with how the Hurricane carried through practice with energy.
"Our guys did a really good job of carrying energy," said Montgomery. "You can tell that their legs were a little bit heavy and some soreness has set in, but you expect that at this point. We'll have a little bit of a recovery day tomorrow and then we'll be right back at it on Tuesday.
The football team will be back on the practice field Tuesday afternoon.
