Tulsa’s Zach Smith, Keylon Stokes Named to 2020 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List

TYLER, Texas ––
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the nation's top offensive player with ties to the state of Texas. Today, a pair of Tulsa Golden Hurricane seniors –– Zach Smith, from Grandview, Texas, and Keylon Stokes, from Manvel, Texas –– were named to the awards 2020 preseason watch list.
 
Smith, a 6'3" quarterback, started all 12 games and passed for 3,279 yards, 19 touchdowns and just nine interceptions with a 131.9 passing efficiency in 2019. He had five 300+ yard passing games with six passes going for more than 50 yards during the 2019 campaign.
 
A transfer from Baylor, Smith finished the 2019 season with a 331-yard passing performance and career-high 5 TDs for a 70-percent completion percentage (21-of-30) against East Carolina in the season finale.
 
A 6'0" senior receiver, Stokes caught 62 passes for 1,040 yards, six touchdowns, a 16.9 average per catch and an 86.7 average per game. He had four 100+ receiving games last year, including a career-best 144 yards against Houston, as well as 129 yards vs. #25 Memphis, 109 yards against Oklahoma State and 101 yards vs. #24 SMU.
 
Stokes also had a team-high 369 kickoff return yards on 19 returns for a 19.4 average. In his three seasons, he has caught 109 passes for 1,758 yards and has 58 kickoff returns for 1,201 yards, while totaling 3,157 all-purpose yards.
 
The award, which began in 2012 and is sponsored by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler, went to Ohio State running Back J.K. Dobbins
 
Named after 1977 Heisman Trophy-winning running back Earl Campbell, the award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
 
The nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and /or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college of four-year Division I Texas college.
