Tulsa’s Collins Named the Chuck Bednarik Award’s National Defensive Player of the Week

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa junior linebacker Zaven Collins was named the Chuck Bednarik Award's National Defensive Player of the Week fin recognition of his outstanding performance against the nation's No. 11-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys last Saturday.
 
On Monday, Collins was named to the 5-player American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll.
 
The 6'4" Collins, from Hominy, Oka., anchored a Tulsa defense that held one of the nation's most potent returning offenses to 277 total yards and snapped the nation's returning rushing leader Chuba Hubbard's 100-yard game streak at 11.
 
Collins totaled 6 tackles, all solos, and 4 of those were tackles for loss totaling 24 yards, including 3 sacks for -16 yards. Collins basically did all this in a 2 ½ quarters as he had to leave the game with an injury.
 
With that individual performance Collins leads the nation this week in TFLs and sacks.
 
At season's end, the Chuck Bednarik Award will be presented to the best defensive player in College Football.
