
Tulsa’s Kristof and Markova Advance to Semifinals at European Rowing U23 Championships

Tulsa rowers Johanna Kristof and Madlen Markova both advanced to the Semifinal, which will be raced on Sunday, in the Women's Single Sculls event at the European Rowing U23 Championships in Duisburg, Germany.
Representing her home country of Austria, Kristof advanced straight from the Heat to the Semifinal as she turned in a second-place time of 8:18.00 in Heat 3, trailing Russia's Anastasiia Liubich by just 1.53 seconds. Kristof finished ahead of Hungary's Bettina Siska (8:28.41), Balarus' Marharyta Rusak (8:29.64) and Slovakia's Viktoria Zruttova (8:43.94).
Markova, representing Bulgaria, was third in Heat 2 with a time of 8:24.56, which forced her to race in the Repechage where she earned a second-place time of 8:21.64 to advance to the Semifinal.
In Markova's Heat, she trailed Greece's Anneta Kyridou (8:04.82) and Estonia's Greta Jaanson (8:15.02), while topping Ukraine's Daria Stavynoga (8:28.23) and Republic of Moldova's Yulia Narivonchik (8:36.14).
In the Repechage, Markova trailed Italy's Elisa Mondelli (8:20.29), but crossed the finish line ahead of Rusak (8:22.94), Slovenia's Lea Hren Strah (8:31.56) and Narivonchik (8:48.27).
