Tulsa Men Take Down Illinois State 6-1

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's tennis team claimed its first win of the season with a 6-1 decision over Illinois State on Friday afternoon.

The Hurricane captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Tulsa's 29^th-ranked doubles team of Connor Di Marco and Kody Pearson jumped out to a 5-1 lead and closed the match at 6-2 for the first of Tulsa's two doubles victories.

Boriss Kamdem and Thomas Thelwall-Jones posted a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position to give the Hurricane a 1-0 lead in the match.

In singles, the Hurricane took five of the six matches with all of those five wins coming in straight sets. Juan Pablo Cenoz gave Tulsa a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 slot, while Stefan Hampe and Connor Di Marco clinched the team victory with 6-2, 6-1 wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions.

Daniel Siddall at No. 6 and the nation's 67^th ranked Kody Pearson at the No. 1 slot finished off the day with Tulsa's final two singles wins. Siddall claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win, while Pearson won his first set 6-2 and captured a 6-4 second set victory after trailing 2-0.

Tulsa will be back in action Friday night for a 6 p.m. matchup against crosstown rival Oral Roberts. The men will take on Omaha on Sunday at 2 p.m.
