Tulsa's fourth-ranked men's soccer team dropped their first match of the season, 3-2, at UCF on Sunday evening at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex in Orlando, Fla.  The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak by the Golden Hurricane, which fell to 9-1 on the season and 4-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Knights moved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the league.

"I thought we started the game okay," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "Our passing was pretty good at times, but I thought we didn't create enough through the midfield.  Overall we defended well in the first half and created a few chances.  I feel like in the first 20 minutes of the second half we just couldn't get through midfield, we didn't create chances, the game was a bit too slow and we needed to defend the wide areas better.  When we got the second goal the guys were doing everything they could to get us back into the game.  I was proud of the guys for working and trying to get the third goal back, but we have to be better than that 20-25 minute spell that hurt us."

The first 50 minutes ticked off the clock scoreless, but Nick Taylor put UCF on the board at the 50:22 mark and Ariel Hadar gave the Knights a two-goal cushion in the 56th minute.

Tom Protzek scored his first collegiate goal and got one back for the Golden Hurricane at the 58:02 mark as he drilled in a free kick from 20 yards out into the upper left corner of the net.

Lucca Dourado punched in a score from eight yards out as he one-timed a cross from Mauricio Villalobos into the middle of the goal to put UCF up 3-1, but Malik Henry-Scott punched in his own rebound attempt from 12 yards out up the middle to make it a one-goal difference in the 83rd minute.  TU was unable to get the equalizer to drop the match, 3-2.

Protzek had a team-best four shots, while Alex Meinhard added three attempts, and Henry Sach and Henry-Scott both had two attempts.  Alex Lopez logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.

UCF had a 14-13 edge in shots, but Tulsa had an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, October 16 against Temple beginning at 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
