Tulsa Overcomes Early Deficit to Defeat South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tulsa volleyball team fell behind, dropping the first set Sunday afternoon against South Florida, before winning three straight sets to beat the Bulls in four, 16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22. Tulsa improves to 12-9 on the season, 7-5 in American Athletic Conference play while South Florida drops to 6-17, 0-12 in AAC play.
 
South Florida had the early advantage, winning the opening set by nine before jumping out to a 7-2 second set lead and a Tulsa timeout. Tulsa would come out of its timeout with a 5-0 run to get themselves back in the second set. Later in the set, with the score tied at 21, the Golden Hurricane would use a 4-0 run to clinch the second set and tie up the match.
 
Tulsa continued the momentum into third and fourth set victories. The Hurricane achieved its sixth road win of the season, the most road wins since the 2017 season.
 
In the fourth set, Callie Cook notched kill number 1,000 on her decorated career. The San Antonio, Texas native has 129 kills this season.
 
Aysu Dalogullari tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Kayley Cassaday poured in 11 kills. Avery Kalsu assisted 35 of the 47 Tulsa kills, and Marta Pecalli had 23 digs.
 
Rachel Brown gave Tulsa a jolt off the bench, tallying eight kills, third most on the team, and three digs. Maggie Hembree continued her steady play as well, finishing with seven kills on .583 hitting percentage and a team-high four blocks.
 
Tulsa will look to continue its momentum when they host Tulane on Friday, November 5th at 7 pm.
