
Tulsa Volleyball Sweeps SMU

DALLAS, Texas ― The Tulsa volleyball team was clicking on all cylinders Friday night, sweeping SMU on the road 27-25, 25-19, 25-20. Tulsa improves to 8-6 on the year, 3-2 in American Athletic Conference Play, while SMU drops to 7-8, 3-2 in AAC play.
"We executed the game plan and played aggressive tonight," head coach Ryan Wills said. "Proud of this total team win!"
Maggie Hembree tallied eight kills on .400 hitting percentage, as well as four total blocks. Kayley Cassaday recorded 12 kills, putting her two away from 500 career kills.
Avery Kalsu put up her sixth double-double of the season, assisting 35 Hurricane kills and notching 12 digs. Callie Cook dropped six kills and tied her season-high with five total blocks.
Tulsa started off behind, trailing SMU 22-24 in the first set. With SMU on set point, Cassaday threw down back-to-back kills to tie the set and send it to extra points. After a SMU kill, the Hurricane went on a 3-0 run to win the opening set, as a Bailey Rowe kill clinched the 27-25 victory.
In the second set, Tulsa went on a 6-0 run to take a 23-15 commanding lead that led to a 2-0 match lead.
After back-and-forth action in the third set, Tulsa finished the set on a 5-2 run to win 25-20. It was the third sweep of the season for Tulsa, and the second conference road win of the season.
Tulsa will head back on the road and look to continue the momentum when the face off against Memphis on Sunday, October 10th at 1 pm.
