
Tulsa Sweeps Temple Sunday Afternoon

TULSA, Okla. – Kayley Cassaday totaled 19 kills in three sets and Roosa Rautio recorded 43 assists as the Tulsa volleyball team swept Temple Sunday afternoon at the Reynolds Center, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17. Tulsa improves to 13-12 overall, 8-8 in American Athletic Conference play while Temple dropped to 5-22, 1-15 in AAC play. It was the second time Tulsa has swept Temple this season (October 22nd in Philadelphia).

After going back and forth during the first set, the Golden Hurricane led 22-19 when Temple pulled off a 4-0 run to go up 23-22. After back-to-back Owl attacking errors, Hannah Overmyer put down her first kill of the game to clinch the first set and give Tulsa a 1-0 match lead.

The second set was also tight throughout, with 16 total times being tied in the set. After falling behind 5-1, Tulsa went on a 5-0 run of its own to take a 6-5 lead. With the score tied 23-23, Bailey Rowe recorded one of her eight kills to give Tulsa the 24-23 advantage. Rowe tallied eight kills on .615 hitting percentage, a career-best hitting percentage with at least eight kills. With Tulsa a point away from leading 2-0 in the match, Rowe and Maggie Hembree combined for the set winning block to give the Hurricane consecutive set wins.

Tulsa rode the momentum into set three, jumping out to a 7-3 early third set lead. The Hurricane wouldn't look back, leading the rest of the way to secure the fifth sweep of the season.

Tulsa recorded 51 kills on .246 hitting percentage today, while digging out 63 Temple attack attempts and totaling seven team blocks.

The Hurricane will return to action Friday, November 19th at East Carolina in Greensville, North Carolina at 5 pm (CT).
