
Cincinnati Outlasts Tulsa in Five Sets

CINCINNATI, Ohio. – Despite a new career-high 26 kills on .453 hitting percentage for Kayley Cassaday, the Tulsa volleyball team dropped a five-set match on the road against Cincinnati, 25-15, 24-26, 19-25, 25-22, 15-10. The Hurricane drop to 14-13, 9-9 in American Athletic Conference play while Cincinnati improves to 17-9, 12-6 in AAC play.
It was a career day for Cassaday. The Overland Park, Kansas product eclipsed a career-high in kills in back-to-back games and finished the weekend road trip with 49 kills. Maggie Hembree totaled 11 kills, while Aysu Dalogullari recorded 10 as the other two Hurricane with double-digit kills on the afternoon.
Roosa Rautio assisted 51 Tulsa kills, while also contributed 11 digs. Today marked consecutive matches for Rautio of having a double-double and finished with 114 over the weekend.
Tulsa started in a hole to start the match, dropping the opening set by ten points. The second set went back-and-forth until the Hurricane went on a 4-1 run to give them a 22-20 lead. After the Bearcats tied it up at 24, a kill by Hembree and a service ace by Dalogullari clinched the second set for Tulsa.
The Hurricane rolled the momentum into the start of the third set, jumping out to a 6-1 advantage. Tulsa would maintain the lead to the end, winning the third set on a Callie Cook kill to go up 2-1.
The fourth set started off ideal for Tulsa, starting the fourth set on an 8-1 run. With the Hurricane up 20-13, the Bearcats ripped off a 10-0 run to take a three-point lead that turned into a fourth set victory to force a winner-take-all fifth set.
For the third straight set-Tulsa started off with the lead, thanks to three Cassaday kills, to take a 5-2 lead in the critical fifth set. Cincinnati would counter with an 8-0 run of its own to take a five-point lead, and ultimately winning the fifth set by five and the match 3-2.
After two consecutive five set matches, Tulsa returns to the Reynolds Center this week when they face Memphis on Wednedsay, November 24th at 5 pm and SMU for senior day on Friday, November 26th at noon.
