Tulsa Drops Five-Set Match to Memphis

11/24/2021 8:47:00 PM | Volleyball

TULSA, Okla. – Playing its third five-set match in a row, the Tulsa volleyball team dropped Wednesday night's match 25-18, 17-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-11. Tulsa drops to 14-14 on the season, 9-10 in American Athletic Conference play while Memphis breaks a four-match losing streak and improves to 13-18, 6-13 in AAC play.

Kayley Cassaday continued her impressive stretch, tallying 24 kills on .277 hitting percentage. The junior has now recorded 20 or more kills in four of the last five matches. Maggie Hembree tallied 13 kills, while Aysu Dalogullari posted 11 of her own.

Callie Cook put up seven kills and seven total blocks in her second-to-last game ever at the Reynolds Center. With two solo blocks today, Cook, who has the most block assists and total blocks in Tulsa history, is now just one shy of tying Juliet Klemm's school record of 78 solo blocks.

Memphis got off to a quick start and ended the first set on a 6-2 run to claim an early lead.

Tulsa responded back in the second, claiming the second set by eight. Roosa Rautio had 12 of her 49 assists in the second set victory. Tulsa carried the momentum into the third set, tallying 20 kills on .347 hitting percentage to take a 2-1 match lead.

With the fourth set tied at 25 apiece, Memphis' Gigi Crescenzo tallied back-to-back kills to push the match to a winner-take-all fifth set. The Tigers finished the match with 59 kills on .150 hitting percentage.

The Tigers wouldn't look back after that, ending the fifth set and the match on a 5-0 run, as a Mackenzie Leach service ace clinched Memphis' fourth road victory of the season.

Tulsa will wrap up the 2021 season Friday, November 26th against SMU at noon. The Hurricane will honor Callie Cook, Maggie Hembree, Lauren Isenberg, Hannah Overmyer and Roosa Rautio following the conclusion of the match.
