
Tulsa Falls to Houston Sunday Afternoon

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa volleyball team lost Sunday afternoon to Houston in straight sets, 25-17, 28-26, 25-22. Tulsa drops to 12-11, 7-7 in American Athletic Conference play, while Houston improves to 21-5, 11-3 in AAC play. Tulsa and Houston split the season series 1-1.

Tulsa and Houston went back and forth at the start of the first set. The Golden Hurricane were up 10-8 when the Cougars ripped off a 10-0 run to put them up eight, and wouldn't look back, taking the opening set by eight.

Houston used the first set momentum to jump out to a 5-0 lead in the second, but Tulsa would answer with a 4-0 run of its own, thanks to back-to-back service aces by Marta Pecalli. After back-and-forth action, Houston was facing set point at 24-23 when a Kayley Cassaday kill pushed the set to extra points. Facing Tulsa's set point, Houston successfully challenged a potential Tulsa winning kill that would've split the match at 1-1. The Cougars would then go on a 3-0 run to win the set 28-26 and take a 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, Tulsa was up 17-13, fighting to stay alive, when Houston went on an 8-1 run that would put them up 21-18, and ride into a 25-22 set win to beat Tulsa in three straight sets.

Maggie Hembree totaled nine kills and three blocks, while Callie Cook recorded eight kills on .667 hitting percentage. Roosa Rautio tallied 32 assists in her second consecutive start.

Tulsa will look to bounce back Wednesday, November 10th when they face Wichita State on the road at 7 pm.
