Rebecca Lescay, Maya Mayberry and Wyvette Mayberry all scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa dropped a 64-56 decision to Houston on Wednesday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 5-7 on the season and 4-7 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Cougars moved to 10-5 overall and 7-4 in the league.

Lescay had a team-best 19 points, while Maya Mayberry added 12 points and Wyvette Mayberry scored 10.  Desiree Lewis pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and Jessika Evans had 10 boards.

"We did a god job defensively, but it was just disappointing offensively," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We took 17 more shots than they did, but we shot just 29-percent and that isn't going to win games.  The longer we played the worse we shot, especially at the free throw line.  We were trying to get to the line, and we did, but the only one making free throws was Rebecca.  We just have to get more scoring than from just Maya, Wyvette and Rebecca.  We also have to get more than 60 points and we didn't get there today."

Tulsa had a 30-26 advantage in points in the paint, but Houston led in points off turnovers (16-9), fast break points (12-7) and points off the bench (20-8).

Tulsa jumped out to a 9-3 lead over the Cougars at the 5:32 mark of the first quarter and owned a 17-10 advantage at the end of the frame.  Lescay had eight of TU's points, while Maya Mayberry added six.

The Hurricane owned a 10-point lead (20-10) with 8:43 on the clock in the second quarter, but Houston battled back with a 15-4 run to take a 25-24 advantage at the 2:20 mark and owned a one-point lead, 29-28, at halftime.

There were four lead changes in the third quarter, but Britney Onyeje scored on a layup at the 3:49 mark to put the Cougars up 41-40 and they maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.  UH outscored TU, 7-1, to claim a 48-42 advantage with one quarter remaining.

Houston won the fourth quarter, 16-14, to claim the eight point win.

The Cougars were led by four players in double figures, including Laila Blair (16), Jazmaine Lewis (12), Miya Crump (11) and Onyeje (10).  Lewis, Crump and Onyeje all had nine rebounds.

Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, February 10 at Tulane.  Game time is set for 3:30 pm in New Orleans, La.
