Tulsa Men’s Tennis Team Downs Washington 4-3

TULSA, Okla. –– It came down to the final match and Ezequiel Santalla pulled out a 6-3 victory in the third set to clinch Tulsa's 4-3 victory over the University of Washington Friday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Tulsa improved to 4-3 on the year and Washington suffered its first loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.

The Hurricane captured the all-important doubles point for a 1-0 lead as Tulsa grabbed wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots.

In singles, Washington won at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions to take a 2-1 lead. Tulsa's Daniel Siddall's 6-4, 6-5 win at the No. 6 spot tied the score at 2-2 before the Huskies retook the lead with a win at the No. 3 position.

The stage was set for a Tulsa comeback as Santalla at the No. 2 position and Juan Pablo Cenoz at No. 5 would battle back to win their matches after dropping their opening sets. Cenoz fell 6-4 in the first set and then evened it in set 2, 6-3, and closed out his match after taking a 4-0 lead for a 6-2 victory in the final set.

His win pulled Tulsa to even for the match at 3-3 with Santalla and Washington's Jack Davis battling at the No. 2 position. After dropping the first set 7-6 and 7-4 in the tiebreaker, Santalla won the second 6-2. In the final set it was nip-and-tuck with the match tied at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3 before Santalla kicked it into high gear and won the next three points for a 6-3 victory.

Tulsa plays Texas Tech on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.
