TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Hurricane surge in the third set, winning the set 26-24 but fall in the end to the Houston Cougars 3-1 in the Reynolds Center Friday night.

Down 21-15 in the third, Tulsa began its fight with two kills by Kylie Trefflich after an attack error by the Cougars. Maggie Hembree and Kayley Cassaday took over recording 5 kills as the Hurricane went on a 9-2 run to end the set. Freshman Avery Kalsu's ace capped off the TU run and gave Tulsa the 26-24 set victory.

Cassaday led the Hurricane offensively putting in 13 kills, adding 3 blocks and 5 digs. Hembree was the only other Hurricane with double-digit kills connecting on 10 kills with a .421 hitting percentage. Hembree led the team with 6 blocks and added 6 digs during the match.

Roosa Rautio continued her strong season, as the setter assisted 44 of the 48 Hurricane kills. Rautio recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 12 digs, while also putting in 4 blocks.

Defensively the duo of Lauren Isenberg and Hannah Overmyer led the way for TU combining for 38 digs. Isenberg added 5 kills and a block during the match.

The Hurricane and Cougars went back and forth to begin the first set; however, Houston used a 5-1 run to take an 11-6 lead. The Cougars thwarted any attempt the Hurricane made to get back into the set, winning the opening frame 25-20.

TU came out strong in the second set, jumping out to a 9-6 lead on a Hembree kill. The Hurricane held a 21-18 lead, but Houston clawed back into it finishing the set on a 7-0 run to take set two 25-21.

After Tulsa took the third set, Houston started the fourth set off strong, building an 8-2 lead. The Hurricane fought back closing the gap to 21-18, using a big contribution from Regan Pendleton who finished with 3 kills in the set. However, Houston ended the match on a 4-1 run and took the 3-1 victory.
