Hurricane Start Hot but Fall to Cougars

TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Hurricane take the fight to the Cougars early winning the first set; however, Houston takes the match 3-1 in the Reynolds Center Saturday afternoon.
Kayley Cassaday led the Hurricane offensively with a career-high 17 kills and added 3 digs for TU.
Kylie Trefflich and Lauren Isenberg combined for 9 kills apiece for the Hurricane. Isenberg continued her strong defensive outings, securing 13 digs on the day.
The Hurricane had 47 kills on 143 attacks for a .231 hitting percentage. Roosa Rautio had her fifth double-double of the season 44 assists on the 47 kills while adding 13 digs for the Hurricane.
Tulsa had four players with double-figure digs, led by libero Hannah Overmyer. Isenberg (13), Rautio (13) and Aysu Dalogullari (11) rounded out the group for TU.
Tulsa jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as a Rautio kill, Cougars error and Overmyer ace gave TU the advantage. The Hurricane extended their lead to 10-5 with a block from Isenberg and Maggie Hembree and a kill from Isenberg. Tulsa went through three match points before an Isenberg kill ended the set 25-22, giving the Hurricane an early 1-0 lead.
The Hurricane and Cougars were locked in a tight one in the second set, as the Hurricane face a 19-16 late in the frame. Houston, however, used a 6-1 run to tie up the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 set win.
After Houston took the third set, Tulsa started the fourth set off strong, building an 6-2 lead. The Hurricane maintained the lead until the Cougars used a 6-1 run to capture a 14-11 advantage. TU fought back, going on a 4-0 streak of their own using two kills by Cassaday and a service ace by Overmyer to take the lead. However, the Hurricane scored just 4 points the rest of the way as Houston captured the 3-1 match win.
Tulsa is back in action on Friday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. traveling to Dallas, Texas to face off with the SMU Mustangs.
