Tulsa Defeats Houston 3-2 in Season Finale

HOUSTON, TexasAlexis Perry's 9th home run of the season gave the Golden Hurricane the 3-2 season finale win against the Houston Cougars Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Stadium.
 
With one out in the top of the 5th inning, Perry sent a home run over the left-center field fence on a 3-1 count, giving the Hurricane a 3-2 advantage.
 
Samantha Pochop (11-2) picked up her team-high 11th win of the season, going 4.1 innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 5 Cougar batters.  
 
Sara Llamas-Howell recorder her 2nd save of the season, coming in with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th inning. The freshman goes 0.2 innings, forcing a pop-up and ground out to end the contest.
 
The Cougars struck first in the game, putting two on in the bottom of the 2nd on back-to-back singles. With two outs in the inning, the Cougars used a single to center field to score a runner from 2nd base, taking the 1-0 lead.
 
Tulsa answered the Houston run in the top of the third, as Tajiah Ellison began the inning singling to right center field. She advanced to second on a wild pitch, before heading to third on a Kylie Norwood fly out to center field.
 
Haley Morgan drew her 22nd hit by a pitch, before Chenise Delce walked to load the bases for Tulsa. Ellison scored during the next at bat on a wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1.
 
In the top of the 4th, the Hurricane was patient as Imani Edwards walked to start the inning, Sarah Briers and Celyna Shaw both were hit by the pitcher to load the bases for Norwood. The second baseman drew a 2-out RBI walk to tie the contest back at 2-2.
 
Kassidy Scott drew the start for the Hurricane, throwing 2.0 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits while recording 1 strikeout.
 
Tulsa improves to 24-15 overall on the season and 15-8 in American Athletic Conference competition, while Houston falls to 17-32 on the year and 8-16 in AAC play.
 
Tulsa will be the 4 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship, starting next Thursday at the Collins Family Softball Complex in Tulsa, Okla. The Hurricane will take on the No. 5 Houston Cougars in the first round, with the winner taking on the No. 1-seeded Wichita State Shockers.
