With just 7.4 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Alex Meinhard drilled in a rebound attempt to give Tulsa's fourth-ranked men's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime win over sixth-ranked SMU on Wednesday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Mustangs fell to 5-1-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.

"The guys are mentally strong," Tulsa Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "We always talk about playing it out and that is what they did.  Give credit to our guys, it was a great finish by Alex and a great effort by all of our guys in that moment.  It is a good win and SMU is a really good team.  I think we can play better for sure.  At times our ball movement wasn't as good as it needed to be, but our guys work exceptionally hard and as long as they continue with the right mentality we should play with confidence moving forward."

"It was a tremendous atmosphere.  The local community, the Tulsa Soccer Club and local high schools, as well as the student atmosphere was tremendous.  It makes a massive difference.  They gave us a lot of energy and they were a big part of us being able to push through for the win."

Papa Ndoye put SMU on the board at the 16:16 mark as he headed in a goal from three yards out off a combination from Harvey Castro and Gabriel Costa to give the Mustangs an early lead.

Nearly 20 minutes later, Ben Barkley fed the ball to Rooks Hunter on the right side of the box and then Hunter had a sliding cross to Meinhard who headed in the equalizer from three yards out at the 34:53 mark.

The two teams battled for nearly the next 75 minutes scoreless, but Meinhard drilled in a rebound attempt taken by Tom Protzek to give TU the win.

SMU's JP Jordan was awarded a yellow card with just 16 seconds ticked off the clock to start the game and picked up his second at the 105:31 mark forcing him to leave the game and the Mustangs to play a man down for the final 4:22 before the game-winning Hurricane goal.  There were eight yellow cards issued in the contest, seven of which went to the SMU players.

Meinhard had a team-bet four shots, while Malik Henry-Scott and Protzek both had three attempts.  Alex Lopez logged all 109:53 in goal and picked up three saves.

Tulsa had a 19-16 edge in shots, while both teams had five shots on goal, and SMU had a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.

Tulsa returns to action on Sunday, October 3 against South Florida beginning at 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
