TULSA, Okla.  ––
The University of Tulsa cross-country teams will run at the 33rd Annual Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival on the University of Arkansas cross country course Friday evening.

The Hurricane men make their return to the event after a five-season hiatus. In 2015, Mark Scott took home the individual title, traversing the course in 23:30.9, and helped lead the men to a runners-up finish. The women competed at the festival in 2019 and finished in fifth place in a 27-team field. Caitlin Klopfer finished ninth and paced the women with a 16:57.2 time. Caroline Miller also nabbed a top-20 spot, navigating the 5K event in 17:15.8.

Tulsa runners will find plenty of competition as more than 30 teams are set to compete at the event. One of the larger races in the country, the Chili Pepper Run was founded in 1988 and became known as the Chili Pepper Festival in 1992 after it combined the three largest races in Northwest Arkansas.

Both TU cross-country teams are coming off top-five finishes at the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 18. Caroline Miller (21:36.0) and Katherina Pesendorfer (21:50.7) finished 14th and 20th for the women, while Scott Beattie (11th) and Cormac Dalton (15th) broke into the top 20 with times of 23:59.0 and 24:06.3 respectively.

The women's 5K begins at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. At 5:30, the McDonnell Memorial College Men's 8K will start.
