TULSA, Okla. –– University of Tulsa Athletic Hall of Famer and baseball All-American Les Rogers died on Monday at the age of 73.

In lieu of flowers, individuals wishing to do so can make a donation to the Tulsa Fire Department, Animal Rescue or the Porte Caeli House Hospice Facility (2440 North Harvard Ave.) in the name of Les Rogers.

Rogers was inducted into the TU Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 1989 after an All-America baseball career in 1968-70. He handled the hot corner for Tulsa's Missouri Valley Conference Championship teams of 1969 and 1970, while earning all-MVC accolades both years.

Rogers was an All-America third baseman for the Golden Hurricane baseball team in 1969. He helped lead Tulsa to a runner-up finish at the 1969 College World Series and led the Hurricane in batting that season with a .427 average. A year later, he hit .336 on the season.

A two-time all-conference selection, Rogers had a career batting average of .375 with nine home runs and 85 RBI.

Rogers was drafted in the 23rd round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1970 Major League Draft and played two seasons in the Dodgers' farm system.

Before coming to TU, Rogers was a standout athlete at Tulsa McLain High School from 1965-67, playing football, basketball and baseball for three seasons. He signed with Tulsa to play football and baseball. Rogers decided to strictly play baseball after a football injury sidelined him during his freshman season.

After his professional career Rogers returned to Tulsa where he joined the Tulsa Fire Department in 1972 and served with the TFD for 21 years (1972-93).
