Tulsa Volleyball Drops Straight Sets To South Florida

TULSA, Okla. — 
The University of Tulsa volleyball team could not overcome a potent Bulls offense Sunday at home, falling to South Florida (8-14, 2-8 AAC) in straight sets (20-25, 16-25, 22-25).
 
The loss dropped the Golden Hurricane's record to 10-13 overall and 3-8 in American Athletic Conference play.
 
Outside hitter Kayley Cassaday led the Hurricane with 14 kills and 11 digs to earn her sixth double-double of the season. Setter Avery Kalsu put up 18 assists to boost the Tulsa offense.  
 
Libero Marta Pecalli chipped in 11 digs to go with 10 digs and a team-high three blocks from Kalsu.
 
The Hurricane will hit the road next weekend to play Temple (9-14, 3-9 AAC) on Friday, Nov. 4, and East Carolina (8-16, 3-9 AAC) on Sunday, Nov. 6.
 
Game Notes
» Marta Pecalli's 11 digs during the loss moves her to 988 career digs. She now needs 12 to reach the 1,000 career-dig mark.
» Pecalli has registered double-digit digs in the last 21 matches for Tulsa.
» Tulsa had three players with double figures in digs.
» Arianna Mongare had a match-high two aces in the loss.
» Avery Kalsu has a team-leading 10 double-doubles on the year after recording 18 assists and 10 digs in the loss.
 
How It Happened
 
SET 1 | The Hurricane found itself in an early hole, losing the first set 25-20. South Florida grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 in a set that was tied up 10 times before the Bulls took over in the second half of the stanza.
 
SET 2 | Tulsa then dropped the second set 25-16 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Tulsa trailed by as many as 11 points as South Florida grabbed the advantage for good early in the set at 2-1 in a stanza that was knotted up two times before the Bulls took over the lead.
 
SET 3 | South Florida finished off the sweep with a third-set victory. The Hurricane came up short by a score of 25-22. South Florida grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied up 11 times before the Bulls took over the lead.
