TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa indoor track team is set to begin the 2022-23 season tomorrow, Dec. 10, at the Crimson & Gold Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Tulsa will send 28 student-athletes—16 women and 12 men—to compete in five events, including the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 300-meter dash, 1-mile run and 3,000-meter run. The Golden Hurricane begins the meet with the 60-meter dash, with the women going first at 1:40 p.m., followed by the men at 2:10 p.m.
Senior distance-runner Scott Beattie, who returns for a fourth indoor track season for Tulsa, had a strong start to his season last week as an individual runner during the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. The Newcastle, England native made TU history as he set a new indoor track record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 13:32.28, beating Marc Scott's 13:37.34 mark in 2016.
Last year, Beattie was the indoor conference champion in both the 5,000-meter run and the 3,000-meter run, in which he set a meet record with a 7:59.43 finish.
Chloe Hershenow returns for a third indoor season after being named the 2022 American Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year. The junior from St. Louis, Mo., who won last year's indoor conference title in the 5,000-meter run, will compete in the 3,000-meter run tomorrow.
Senior Isaac Akers returns for a fourth season after having an outstanding 2021-22 indoor season. The distance runner from Market Harborough, England, placed in the top five six times in his events, including a first-place finish in the 1-mile run during the American Indoor Championships with a meet-record time of 4:03.45.
Distance runner Katharina Pesendorfer returns for her fourth indoor track season. The senior from Henndorf am Wallersee, Austria, won last season's indoor conference title in the 3,000-meter run.
The 2022-23 Tulsa roster features 65 athletes, including 27 newcomers and 38 athletes from last year's roster—19 men and 19 women.
After the Crimson & Gold Invitational, Tulsa will return to action on Jan. 13 at the Arkansas Invitational. Then, the Hurricane will compete in Iowa's Larry Wieczorek Invite and the Wendy's Invite at Pittsburg State to wrap up the January slate.
In February, Tulsa will head back to Pittsburg State for a third time to participate in the Gorilla Classic. The Hurricane will compete in the Windy City Invite and Arkansas Qualifier before heading to Birmingham, Ala., for The American Indoor Championships starting on Feb. 24.
The 2022-23 indoor track season concludes with the NCAA Indoor Championships scheduled for March 10-11.
