
Tulsa Downs AAC Foe Wichita State to Improve to 7-1

WICHITA, Kan. ― Tulsa had little trouble during Wednesday afternoon's road match, downing AAC foe Wichita State 4-0 to improve to 7-1 on the season, and 2-0 against AAC schools.
The Hurricane won the doubles point, as Laia Conde Monfort/Shura Poppe and Valeryia Rozenkova/Maria Berlanga both secured doubles wins. Rozenkova /Berlanga improve to 6-2 this season from the No. 1 position, while Monfort/Poppe are now 7-0 from the No. 2 slot.
Tulsa continued its momentum from doubles play into singles, as Poppe, Monfort, and Berlanga all won in straight sets to give Tulsa its seventh victory of the season. Monfort, who is ranked No. 94 in the ITA Single's Rankings, is now 5-0 on the season from the No. 1 singles spot. As a team, Tulsa is a whopping 32-9 in singles play, and 18-4 in doubles play this spring.
At 7-1, Tulsa has its best start since the 2015-16 season when the Hurricane finished 22-5 and made it to the NCAA Regionals. Tulsa's lone loss this spring is to No. 2 North Carolina, and the Hurricane just recently started receiving votes in the USTA Top 25 poll.
Tulsa will look to continue the impressive play and beat its first ranked opponent this season on Sunday against No. 22 Oklahoma State in Stillwater at 1 p.m.
