Tulsa Women’s Tennis Season Ends in NCAA First Round

NORMAN, Okla. — The Tulsa women's tennis team fought hard against a tough first-round opponent in No. 20 Oklahoma State, falling 4-0 to the Cowgirls Friday in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship at Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. The Golden Hurricane end their season with a 19-9 overall record, the team's best finish since 2018.

The doubles point went to Oklahoma State after the Cowgirls captured the second and third lines in 6-4 and 6-3 decisions, respectively, leaving senior duo Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings unfinished in a 6-6 tiebreaker set atop the lineup.

With four nationally-ranked singles players, OSU continued its momentum with straight-set decisions in the Nos. 2-4 courts, leaving Berlanga and senior Ana Naranjo Martinez down a set in the first and fifth positions and sophomore Erin McKenzie up a frame in the six-spot.

McKenzie was one game away from claiming what would have been her first career win over a ranked opponent, but Tulsa's singles lineup couldn't hold on against a strong unit from Stillwater, who moves on to the second round to face the winner of Denver and No. 6 Oklahoma.
