Tulsa Claims Three Titles on First Day of AAC Indoor Championships

Hurricane Men and Women Second in Standings After Day One
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Chloe Hershenow and Scott Beattie claimed American Athletic Conference championships in the 5,000-meter run while the Tulsa distance medley relay team of Shay McEvoy, Henry Visser, Isaac Akers, and Michael Power set a meet record and the third fastest-time in school history. The Tulsa indoor track and field team had six athletes qualify for final events tomorrow during day one of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Beattie, Cormac Dalton, and Peter Lynch went one-two-three in the men's 3,000-meter run, while Hershenow and Caroline Miller finished in the top-two of the women's 3,000-meter run. Tulsa took five of the first nine spots in the men's run, and three of the top-nine in the women's run.
On the women's side, Tulsa had three athletes qualify, including Keely Jones and McEachern in the mile, Jaidah McCallon in the 800-meter run, while the distance medley relay team finished third.
For the men, Evan Sanni-Thomas' had the second-fastest time in the 400-meter prelim run at 47.66 to qualify for the 400-meter finals. Josh Sutton qualified for two events, the 60-meter finals and 200-meter finals, and Pete Johnson's 1:54.84 helped him narrowly qualify in the 800-meter run.
The final day of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships is slated to begin at 9 a.m. and can be watched on ESPN+.
