LUBBOCK, Texas. – After hosting the UCA Bears on Tuesday, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane is headed south to Texas for the four-game Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.
The young Hurricane team sits at 6-12 on the season after falling 9-1 in six innings to Central Arkansas on Tuesday evening. Tulsa's Haley Morgan has a team-leading .370 batting averaging with five doubles, a triple and a home run. Abby Jones is hitting .321 and freshman Celeste Wood bats .315 with a team-high seven doubles, three triples and 19 RBIs.
In the circle, senior Samantha Pochop leads a group of four hurlers with a 3.36 ERA and 57 strikeouts. She's tossed three complete games in nine starts and has three wins, holding batters to a .242 average. Freshman Makenzie Brown also keeps batters off-balance, holding opponents to .255 hitting average against.
In weekend action, Tulsa will start play against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by a 1:30 p.m. matchup against host Texas Tech. On Sunday, the Islanders will be first up again for Tulsa at 10 a.m. followed by the Red Raiders at 3 p.m.
Texas A&M-CC has a 10-12 overall record after coming off a split at Baylor over the weekend. The Red Raiders are 8-12 on the year with six of those losses against top-25 teams.
